Firefox@AIUB hosted a session titled “Fundamentals of Research” on April 1, 2022 in partnership with the AIUB Computer Club(ACC). In which a student may learn the fundamentals of conducting research. It a opportunity for those who are serious about pursuing a career as a researcher or in academia to begin work on a thesis.Saima Sharleeen IslamApu (Club Advisor and Former Club Lead of Firefox@AIUB, Currently researcher in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the National Institute of Cancer Research and Hospital (NICRH)) was our speaker and Hannah Shows, Ph.D. (Artificial Intelligence Specialist) were our special guest for the session, which was held online utilizing the Google Meet platform. The workshop started at 7.30 p.m. as scheduled, and Khandaker Raiyan Rahman (Social
Awareness Lead) and Samiha Hossain Meha (Design and Decoration Peer) hosted the online gathering by introducing the speaker Saima Sharleeen Islam Apu (Club Advisor and Former Club Lead Firefox@AIUB). Saima Sharleeen Islam Apu opened the session by introducing herself and giving her narrative about how she became interested in research, the present state of this platform, and how she was motivated.
With a quick summary, she explained and helped the audience understand how to do research and what mistakes people make. She also used her screen to show a slide with all of the important keynotes and guidance from the beginning as this is not a bookish based subject and many universities offer a course called research methodology where students just run after grades but can’t go far because they don’t understand the importance or how to conduct proper research. She made it very obvious what to do and what not to do.
Due to time zone complications, our guest Hannah Shows, Ph.D. (Artificial Intelligence Specialist) was unable to attend the session, but she shared a wonderful video in which she discussed her experience and encouraged girls to take the lead alongside guys. Saima Sharleeen Islam Apu also gave some resources for conducting research, as well as some social media profiles to follow and interact with to learn more. She mentioned several important places
to use for research. At the conclusion of this report, you’ll find all of the links. Indeed, the meeting was excellent in that it answered all of our issues and motivated us through our club counselors.
