Discrimination, Intimidation, Harassment and Assault Policy
One of ACC’s top priorities is to safeguard a healthy environment for its community. ACC is committed to the values of civility, equity, respect, non-discrimination and an appreciation of diversity. It is imperative that situations of discrimination, intimidation, harassment, and assault stop as soon as possible and that we prevent those from happening again. The policy addresses ways to prevent harassment, as well as where to find support and redress when harassment occurs.
What is..?
Discrimination
Discrimination is the act of making distinctions between human beings based on the groups, classes, or other categories to which they are perceived to belong.
Intimidation
Intimidation is intentional behavior that “would cause a person of ordinary sensibilities” to fear injury or harm.
Harassment
Harassment is all forms of repeated or ongoing unwelcome and distressing conduct, including but not limited to sexual harassment, psychological harassment or harassment based on a ground prohibited by law.
Assault
An assault is the act of inflicting physical harm or unwanted physical contact upon a person or, in some specific legal definitions, a threat or attempt to commit such an action.
What should I do if I think I am the victim of one of these?
- Speak directly to the person who is doing so, identify the behavior and ask them to stop and correct it.
- Discuss the situation with the president and help him/her to ensure the justice.
- If the president is related to this matter, ask help from OSA and provide the proves.
What if I am being discriminated, intimidated, harassed or assaulted by a student?
If you are being discriminated, intimidated, harassed or assaulted by an AIUB student and not related to club. Speak directly to the person who is doing so, identify the behavior and ask them to stop and correct it. If this is not working, ask help from OSA by official complaint against the student.
What if I am being discriminated, intimidated, harassed or assaulted by a club member?
If you are being discriminated, intimidated, harassed or assaulted by a club member Ask help from president by oral/official complaint against the member. President will warn the member. If the incident happens again after the warning, inform president and provide the proves. He will act against him and if needed will inform OSA.
What if I am being discriminated, intimidated, harassed or assaulted by an alumni member?
If you are being discriminated, intimidated, harassed or assaulted by an alumni member Ask help from president by oral/official complaint against the alumni member. President will discuss with the advisors and will warn the alumni member. If the incident happens again after the warning, inform president, and provide the proves. He will act against him and if needed will inform OSA.
What would happen if the incident proved and someone proved guilty?
If a club member/ alumni member is proven guilty the club authority will ensure the person will not attend future events of ACC. He/She will be banned from the club for lifetime. Cannot use club reference anymore and the guilty will be warned not to do so further. If it happens again club will inform the university and follow the university rules. If necessary, the victim can file an official complaint against the guilty. As, Bangladesh lawsuit has law against these kinds of incidents. If the non-club member but student of AIUB is proven guilty, the action will be taken according to AIUB policy.
Conclusion
It is a duty of all members to follow the policy. And this is a serious issue in any organization. It will be handled very strictly. Once proven and punished any connection with the guilty is not a concern of club. And club is not responsible for this once the guilty is banned from the club.
